TZ slips in ease of doing business
Abstract
The article reports about business environment in Tanzania. Tanzania has fallen further in the rankings of the Doing Business 2018 (DB2018) report. This has risen concerns over the efficacy and results of the ongoing reforms. The country was ranked 137th globally in DB2018 report from 132th in the DB2017 report. In the survey that involved 190 countries and published on Tuesday by the World Bank, Tanzania’s overall scores in the rankings were 54.04 points being slight improvement of 0.11 points compared to the DB2017.This means the country’s speed in implementing business reforms wasn’t fast as other countries. The country did worse in categories such as facilitating trade across borders and land and property registration as it’s more expensive. Reaction on the Tanzania National Business Council (TNBC) was that, improvements were carried out since the fifth phase government came into power two years ago but they were carried out after the survey of the report has already been conducted.
